Drug test = Fail - What do you think?

Hi all

Just got a call from my best m8 today to say that he was just back from taking a drug test for a job he was applying for. It's a job in a government building taking care of some of their I.T work.

He had been told about this test about 3 weeks ago so didn't get up to any badness since then. He would very rarely take anything but might have the odd smoke now and then + if its a really big night maybe something a big stronger, but never in excess. As far as he knew it was going to be a urine test but when he showed up they informed him that it was a hair follicle they would be testing and that now would be a good time to come clean about any drug use :(

He was informed that they could trace back to around 2 years, so he was **** out of luck. He told the truth and they said they will let him know in 2 to 3 weeks. The guy did say that his honesty would go for him. The problem is that he was interviewed by an external agency about his character, and was specifically asked if he had ever taken drugs, he said he hadn't. They also interviewed me as a character witness and asked the same question, to which I also replied 'no'.

Realistically what do you think his chances are of getting the job? He is hoping that the other 4 guys that where at the test also have a history but he wasn't sure if all 5 of them where up for different jobs or competing for the same job.
 
If there are inconsistencies that they will pick up, especially with regards to his drug use and what you and your friend has said, he's not going to get the job. They don't want drug users who lie, simple as. If the agency doesn't spill the beans on such inconsistencies, your friend might get lucky.

yes they blagged him. why would you walk when it came to the test? its not like it was unannounced, he had plenty of notice about it.
 
Thats what I thought :(

I really feel for him, its not as if he is a blurry eyed junky, Just the odd dabble here and there.

He thought it was pee test didnt he? If they didnt inform him of the full nature of the test then walk. If he didnt read the small print the pffffffft

He had notice I know, but as far as he knew it was a urine test and anything he had taken would have been flushed out by the time of the test.
 
Depends what "Government Job". Looking at fact you were used as a witness I guess it's MI5 or the like and sadly they are very strict on these things. That coupled with the fact his witness and himself both said that he had never taken any drugs and then later found out and admitted he did can't be a good thing as they value honesty higher than most other traits.

That said they can be fairly easy going on past use as long as it's not happening while in their employment.
 
Should have just took the test & blagged it. Deny everything as in my own experience honesty gets you **** all when it comes to employment.
Just Lie & get others to Lie for you, In fact Do Anything you have to & just get the job.
When i am Honest in Interviews people crap themselves & ask me to leave. When i say nothing they look at me weird then crap themselves & ask me to leave :(
Just do whatever you have to at the time to get the job. Once in the job & actually doing it then there is a reason for them to ignore your own personal issues.
 
because he (and you) lied about it, then came through and admitted it later, they're probably going to bin the application anyway.

don't you guys remember that thread on here a while ago when someone said that the police had rejected his application because he said something really minor on a forum?

It depends what drugs they find and what quantities. But it's not looking good as it sounds like he's dabbled with a lot.

remember kids stick to class As they only stay in your urine for 3 days, shrooms for 7 days and weed for 4weeks.

But all grow out with your hair, so your stuffed if it's a hair test.
