So, a few weeks ago I popped my drums off just to see what the wear level was like, it was fine so I put them back on and thought nothing more of it. Since then, although not directly after, I've been getting this grinding noise from the rear when using the brakes.
A couple of days ago I popped them off again to inspect and see what was going on. There was nothing apparently wrong in there, but on both sides there was a binding for about 20 degrees or so of the rotation. I gave them a clean out and put them back together, totally free spinning now. I drive the car and there is no more noise.
I drove to a mates and left the car on the drive for the evening, it rained quite a bit in that time so maybe that's significant? Anyway as I drove off on my way back home, the first time i hit the brake the noise is back, with a vengeance!
Now I don't claim to really know anything at all about drum brakes so I'm hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on what this is about.
Thanks.
