Hi all

Ive heard various D&B tracks over the years and Ive always thought they brilliant. Are any of you into this style of music?

One track that really grabbed me was SHIMON FEAT. KIMANI JAZZ FREAK / MALICE. I ended up buying that on vinyl a good few years ago but have since misplaced it.

I guess what im asking is to be pointed in the right direction, any albums you could recommend?

Cheers

I'm very much into drum and bass, glad you are enjoying it too!

Hospital Mix albums
Drum and Bass Arena albums
Andy C Nightlife 1-4
Fabriclive albums

These are mainly compilations and mixes, but there are a few good solo albums worth getting too.

E.g
Commix
High contrast
Logistics
Dillinja
Ed Rush & Optical
Black Sun Empire
LTJ Bukem

There's too many to list!

As above, the best thing to do is listen to a load of mixes and pick out the artists you like the sound of. Drum and bass is very varied so you're bound to find something you like.

Agreed! I found a good way to find new music is to download some of Radio 1's Essential Mixes as you get loads of variety and also get tracklistings on Radio 1's website ;)

Recommended Essential Mixes from me:

Crookers
High Contrast
MSTRKRFT
Erol Alkan
Chase & Status
Pendulum (It's a few years old so has none of the new crap stuff :p)
Kissy Sell Out presents Jaymo & Andy George (Live mix from Lincoln's Engine Shed, has some very good bits imo)

Just go onto a torrent site and search for "Essential Mix" or something along those lines, you can't go wrong :D

The essential mixes are fantastic but not a lot of drum n bass mentioned there :)

try some of these essential mixes...

High Contrast
Rusko
London Elektricity
Goldie (Metalheadz)

Pendulum - Hold Your Colour

and

Pendulum - In Silico

get out

http://www.newmixes.com/ have essential mixes I personally would get

Chase & Status
Goldie

The goldie one is immense and probably the best 2hrs of dnb you can find :D

Not a big fan of high contrast as of late his boring remixes are doing my head in, simple drum loops with the track whacked on the top.

1xtra have a few DNB shows as well as do Radio1 with fabio/grooverider. If your into the more melodic sort of stuff than fabio will probably be more your thing. Will be on the iplayer so its worth a look.

Klute has got a couple of good albums out there. Try No One's Listening Anymore. Also I'd recommend you try Andy C and DJ Hype Fabric 18 CD. Oh and some stuff by TC :)

Yes I've loved DnB for years, I followed it right from the early '91 years , through its jungle and ragga era , though I have to say my favorite type is either old school 'Jungle Techno' type Drum & Bass or modern 'Jump Up' such as Jungle Brothers -> King of the beat remake of the classic 80's electro track , PUMPKIN & PROFILE ALLSTARS - HERE COMES THAT BEAT.

I even write DnB and other styles myself and have released several albums, all free to download, check out my Sig ;)

LTJ Bukem - Logical Progression.

/thread :)

Good shout. :)

Another classic worth trying to track down is AWOL live from Ministry of Sound, recorded during I guess the peak of the whole jungle scene before it started heading on its journey towards 'tech step'. Speaking of which, Ed Rush & Optical's Wormhole, Ram Trilogy's Molten Beats and Bad Company's Inside the Machine are all worth a listen.

Fabric Live 40 by Noisia is ace, I have that playing in the car atm. Also been listening to some Skynet recently but back with Noisia again after hearing their remix of Carbon Shock!

Edit: Not an album, but Lead Us by Black Sun Empire feat Noisia. Ooof!

im not the greatest fan of drum n bass but i have been anjoying Black Sun Empire some very good albums.

Jungle Brothers -> King of the beat

Im listening to that right now :-)

I've loved Dnb since my raving days back in the mid 90's (god that makes me feel old)

Check out the Hospital Records podcasts on Itunes or as said get a few compliation albums and pick out the artists you like and look for their albums,

As others have said DnB is really varied. For example I don't like most of the artists that have been posted. You need to really investigate as DnB has some totally different sounds and you might not like all of them!

Fabriclive40 mix by Noisia is a good shout. If you haven't already check out: Chase & Status, Evol Intent, Spor, Noisia, The Upbeats, Dirtyphonics, Ewun.

Check out their myspace sites as they usually have most of their tunes on there.

Had to post this :p -
DIRTYPHONICS LIVE @ Jungle Juice (click HD)

There's some podcasts on Spor's Myspace if you're interested.

EDIT: ^^ Dieselboy is alright. Find some of his tracks to be a bit messy if you know what I mean? Love the drop on midnight express - 3mins in :D

True, although I was more referring to Janesy B's comment about how varied the whole genre is - and most of the essential mixes I listed have some form of DnB in them, as well as having shed loads of tracks from other (some similar, some not too-similar) genres which I've grown to love too as a result :)

Forgot about London Elektricity, currently got La Boum De Luxe on the iPod in the car :D

Noisia is another one to check out, do some proper good stuff.

TC is worth a look, although some of his stuff is god awful!

Scratch Perverts do loads of stuff too

Hospital Records is your best bet though ;)
