Darwin police say a drink driver they caught last night tried to give them a dead fish.

Officers were called to a service station at Casuarina because the man was visibly intoxicated.

He allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.235.

Police say the fish was reasonably fresh.

I like the one we have now:cool:

I also like the one we have now. But when we become a republic, I hope we get a different flag. I'd be happy with the one in my sig, or something similar.

I thought most people voted against it being a republic?

No. The last referendum did not ask if people wanted a republic. It asked if people wanted a republic with a President appointed by Parliament. Therefore, if you answered "yes" to the question, you were committed to the specific republican model presented by the question. The question did not allow for any alternatives.

Monarchists obviously voted "No" to this question. But so did many republicans, since not every republican subscribes to the same republican model. So the result of the referendum did not tell us how many people wanted a republic. It simply told us how many people wanted a specific type of republic.

Fortunately our current Prime Minister (Kevin Rudd) has promised that Australia will become a republic, so it is now only a matter of time.

We did.

Again and again.

No. There has only been one republican referendum, and that referendum was carefully worded in order to achieve a certain result (see above). It was a bit like saying "We're going to hold a referendum on the abolition of the monarchy" and then asking "Do you want Queen Elizabeth to remain Queen, or do you want her to abdicate in favour of Prince Charles?"

We are in Deep deep trouble once Chales becomes king though:(

Why? What difference will that make to us? He'll just be a meaningless figurehead, like QEII.

I thought we had more then that, Damn my young age:p

LOL :p

Dont forget though Kevin Rudd Promises a lot of things to every one:p

Of course he does; he's a politician. And he'll break a lot of those promises. But he's also a republican from way back, so I think he's committed to this one.

And we will be introuble with Chales not because of chales but thats when people reckon Australia will jump ship to a Republic.

Ah... ;)
