Drving with lights on?!?

Whenever its a bit overcast or dark i will have my lights on regardless of the time, i'm usually the first to stick my lights on.

Problem? No i don't think so, i'm sure it saved my bacon a few times in the mazda and making yourself more visible is never a bad thing, i don't see the issue myself.

ALWAYS have my sidelights on, headlights if dull. It's not hurting anyone and as said, helps to be seen. The amount of people with no lights on in foggy or dull conditions gets me wound up, and you would think they'd take a hint if they see you have yours on. Nope, they just plod along. Ugh. Now THAT winds me up!

Full beams in general during the night or day wind me up if they're behind me or coming towards me. On bikes it's relatively easy to forget at times, but still as you say as long as there are cars around or you're in a built up area, there's no need for full beams on.

the amount of people who have fog lights on very very very light mist is just if not more as annoying though.

so people can see me better, since they seem to have enough problems without me not using everything I can to help.

Bike i normally use high beam when its sunny, dipped the rest of the time.
Car just dipped.

Why oh why do people insist on driving during the day with their lights on?

Unless you are in a Volvo, I can see no reason why people drive with their lights, on Friday at 1pm I saw some ditzy bird in a 57 plate Touareg with her lights on, followed by a fool in a 08 plate C class with his lights on.

I just don't understand

Had to get this off my chest.

surely there are more important things in life than why people have there lights on?

Whenever I'm on the bike I have my lights on, doesn't matter if it's glorious sunshine or piddling down with rain - I want people to notice me, because if they don't it could be a matter of life or death.

In the car I'm not so bad - if it's a gloomy day I'll keep the sidelights on on the MR2 (mainly because the pop up headlights ruin the lines of the car :P) then I'll put on the dipped beam when it's dark enough to warrant them. However if it was raining heavily during the day I would put my lights on.

Not a good idea really, high beam will dazzle oncoming traffic. Unless it's like my bike before I adjusted the headlamp, where dipped was nearer to high and high was pointing skyward ;).

I think that daytime running lights should be compulsory - as any biker who has ridden in rain will know, visibility in bad weather is terrible even in the day and vehicles without lights can be near invisible. And if yesterday is anything to go by, about 50% of drivers don't feel it necessary to use lights in the rain.

I have my lights on during the day due to the fact other road users can see me better. I swear the next person that flashes me or tells me "your lights on are on" i will murder.

Seconded. The sooner mandatory DRLs are introduced the better, IMO.

You dont need full beam on during the day! That is so annoying for everyone else on the road. The light doesnt stop being directed in peoples faces just because its not dark! Use dipped ffs

This.

Although I prefer to turn the auto lights off and control them myself.

I really don't see what the issue is, they're going to be less distracting than they are at night anyway.

Becuase we have Xenons are we are better than you. We need to make sure you and other road users know this.

Now get out of the way.

Lol.

I'd rather see lights on in the day than lights off at dusk/night as I saw last night on the M25

I don't get those who drive with the fogs on either. I think in their mind they look 'cool'.

Thinking about it, the only cars that I see using their headlights during the day are BMW and Audi drivers. I guess they like to show off their angel eyes and LEDs but at least they aren't cheap knock offs bought from ebay and stuck on a Corsa.

I never have the lights on during the day when I'm driving the Avensis, but I pretty much always have them on now when driving the Elise. I got fed up with people just not seeing me (being small and low).
