How can i set up my Lite to play online? Also what games are compatible. Only got the console the other day so only have 3 games - New Super Mario, Mario Kart, and Point Blanc.

Thanks in advance guys.

I'll admit to having less fun online with Mario Kart than I had hoped for.
I don't know what I was expecting really.
I think I was hoping I'd go online, play against some people for fun - I mean, after a while the computer AI can only do so much.

What I actually found were people who had the simple goal of winning at all costs.
Now I play to win a game, I also play for the fun to.
I want to have fun, have a laugh and try my best and possibly win too.
All I seemed to do was come up against people who either use the "snaking" technique or have got so much time on their hands they are pretty much unbeatable.
I'm not really complaining about those people - in the same way that if I am ever bored enough to be playing FPS PC games online I expect there to be some really good players there - but this "must win at all costs" attitude from some can spoil things a little.

Games like Animal Crossing lend themselves well to online play where it isn't quite so competitive.

i play MarioKart DS at work probably 2-3 times a week with 3 other guys from work in the chillout room over local wifi!

its proper good, most races are very close, with like 3 abreast down the straits, pain from a blueshell cos it usually takes out more than 1 person (winner slams on anchors takes every1 out). (we play 4 additional CPU karts too)

that is mario kart as it should be!

theres no snaking, the cpu dpoesnt do it, and we are all kinda similar level at the game. it makes it immense fun.

I have my DSlite setup to go online but to many people cheat. I use to play Animal Crossing Wild World and people started using cheat devices to get anything they want straight away. So going online with that become pointless. I hear people cheat on Mario Kart with snaking so I never bought that for my DS lite. Also now I here people cheat on Metroid Prime Hunters.

I'm sick of this Playstation culture spreading over to my beloved Nintendo games.

5th one down.
Edit: They even had a video guide with it in: http://www.nintendo-europe.com/NOE/...rop=video&id=exJ2Rorxsg_H37tGd-E4L7-EFWb7yIKK

Care to expand? It's been in mario kart since MK64 as an intentional gameplay mechanic. It's as bad as whining and throwing your toys out of the pram because you can reload before the clip is empty in a FPS game

If MK64 was online we'd have loads of people kicking up a fuss about snaking in that, I'm not sure why you guys are suprised that people online are competitive. It almost seems like a bubble has burst once you all realised you're not actually great at MK just because you can beat your mates =/

Never owned a playstation, been playing since the beginning of the NES days (I'm only 20).

I haven't bought MKDS so snaking hasn't effected me I just hear so many people complaining about people cheating in the game. My biggest upset and the main point to my last post is people using like action replay type devices ruining the online side of games.

It's perthetic enought when people use them in single player games but when people take it one step more and ruin competitive side of online gaming then it really gets me enraged.

I remember a friend cheating in a game when I was a kid so I punched him in the head. lol Those were the days.

Ah yes, I've come across invincible players on MPH :(

The point I was trying to make though was that if MK64 was online and you played it snaking would have affected you even back then. It a fairly long tradition in MK to snake but like wave dashing and L cancelling in Smash brothers many people who just play their friends never come across it. Snaking has been intentionally included in MK since MK64 and the links I used are official nintendo guides on how to do it.

that does not however mean that snaking is a positive thing for the MK franchise however...
No, we should all have stuck with the original MK and never update anything.

The "snaking" issue is point well made - but to somebody who uses the technique he is never going to get that point accross.
Imagine if it wasn't possible to use that technique, imagine if it didn't exist.
Now remove all the other cheats from the game.
OK, we now have a clear "battlefield".
Some people will be better than others, this is a given, is understandable etc.
However generally speaking the game would be 100x better because anybody would be able to simply join in the game and have fun.
Fun - you know, the thing that gaming is all about.

However you use the snaking technique and you will defend it until the ends of the earth.
Why?
Because it means you can win nearly all of your games and when confronted you simply turn around, say it's part of the game and tell people to stop moaning.
Nobody is taking this away from you - indeed it is part of the game.
The point being made is that as a technique it spoils the fun for the majority of people.
However to the "snaker" this isn't a problem - they are winning all of their games and this is where you get your enjoyment.

It's exactly the same with FPS on the PC.
I am lucky enough that I've been around computers for a long time.
I played the original Doom on corporate Lans and I'll tell you know that as Vs gaming goes nothing can beat those early games over lunch hours.
Because there were a group of people, some better than others but everyone was enjoying themselves - even those getting killed time and time again.
However all it takes is the addition of somebody who "must win at any/all costs" and the experience and the fun for everone drops.

Yes "snaking" is part of the game - nobody denies this.
No it isn't cheating, I don't think anybody has actually accused you of this.
However as a way of ruining the experience certainly for novice players it is a technique that shouldn't be there.
Imagine it didn't exist and you weren't winning 95% of all your races - I really don't think you would be having half as much fun.
You get fun from the win, certainly not from the playing.

No, I enjoy a game that requires skill over luck. The most fun I've had in MK have been the closest races where if one person messes up it's game over for them. It's nothing to do with winning :) I would never play in Smash Bros tournies or play StarCraft online if I liked winning. It's a real shame most online MKers suck because it actually requires a lot of skill and it would be great to have some decent competition.

Saying that some people say MK on the Snes is still the best of the Mario Kart series. :)
People will always have a soft spot for the originals though.

A lot of people do, claiming it's cheating. Those who want your brand of 'fun' should surely just play against their mates as the online world thrives on competition. In damn near every game online people are out there to win.

Edit: For the record I always play at just above the other players abilities on MKDS online, to try and keep them having fun :)

There's people that didn't like Double Dash but I enjoyed it.
I liked it too, although I did feel the handling was a bit squiffy. The tracks were awesome IMO and it had a big time trial scene.
