DS or DSi - for parents?

Go easy on me, I don't stray into these parts very often. Looking at getting them one of these to share for Xmas, seen the adverts for Brain Training and such, think they'll like it.

Basically, is there any point getting one over the other? As in, is there any point getting the older (DS) just to save a couple of quid? Seems the DSi is much better and I may as well account for any games needs in the future even though at the moment, it's only likely to be used for Brain Training and Sudoku!

Also, red DSi, does it ever exist in stock anywhere? General question, not looking for someone to tell me where to get one... Is red popular, or just rare?

Personally I would just go for the DSLite if only for the simple things like Brain Training or whatever.

DSi is probably good for the future, but really, it just seems to be very slow in the uptaking of any exclusive DSi-specific stuff, and so it just doesn't feel like it is worth it at the moment.

Shame the Nintendo DSi XL won't be out here until next year, as this version is perfect for parents/elder people due to the bigger screen etc.
