I currently have a DS210j and mulling over an upgrade. Would I see a good difference moving from a DS210j to a DS212 (not j model)?

Synology boasts of the 212 as follows:

"Synology DS212 delivers an average 110 MB/sec reading speed under RAID 1 configuration in a Windows environment, and 54.3 MB/sec writing".

I have two 2tb WD Greens in Raid 1.

Stats for the DS210j would appear hard to find.

It really depends on how your using the nas. Do you find there is a task its struggling with that warrants the upgrade?

I know with my DS211j it handles everything I throw at it from transcoding mkvs to streaming 20gb movies to 3pcs at a time while recording from the cctv.

My DS210j is primarily being used as a backup for my main pc and for streaming vido to my HTPC downstairs (XBMC) and my iPad2. Occasionally in XBMC I get pauses where it buffers. Though this may be the fact that it is connected by homeplug to the router.

Does not sound to taxing at all. Would look at eliminating the homeplugs first. My neighbours on my network so its going Ethernet threw attic to gigabit switch then home plug to downstairs and still streams fine with a 15Gb file. He is using the 200mb tp link homeplugs.

Have you tried keeping the performance logs and monitoring it when it pauses in the dsm software?
