Right,

The fan on my DS210J which I bought fomr the MM is making a bit of a racket. Can these be changed easily does anyone know? ie unplug old fan, plug in new fan or are the soldered to the board?

Also, if they are easily changed can anyone recommend a fan?

I looked into changing the one on my 207+ and it didn't seem that hard. Open it up and have a look. I think there was some info on the Synology forum.

I've had a look around and can't find much. Shall have to get the trusty screwdriver out! The 211j is a standard push in connector, fingers crossed.

New fan arrived today and it was a 10 min job, though second time round could do it much quicker.

I removed the old fan, and where the 3 pin fan connector connect to the motherboard I removed the little plastic retainer it clips into leaving 3 bare pins on the mobo. Connected new fan in. Used a mix of silicone rubber pins and the screws. Booted no issues. Fan is very quiet, Now about that hard drive noise..............

ps temps have dropped down to 23c, will keep an eye and see if they stay there.

Could be the RPM is too low and it doesn't like like it? Long as the temps are fine, I wouldn't be too worried.

is that because of the Auto Thermal Sensor?

It might be, not too sure.

It seems to have stopped now. The fan can spin to about 2900 I think.

Shall keep an eye on it. Otherwise the system seems to like it, hd temps are down and teh fan turned itself off completely earlier due to low temps.

In fairness to synology, emailed them about the fan and they checked my device which is apparantly still under warranty.. huzah they are sending me a new fan free of charge

Well it was running fine, no errors then about a day or two ago it started giving motification errors that the fan had stopped and then resumed. I assume it was stopping due to the temps being nice and low but couldn't work out how to disable the notifications. Concerned about it I emailed synology who said my drive was in warranty (really surprised) and they'd get a new fan out to me. I cannot believe how much better the fan is.
