Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else is having trouble with the automatic fan control feature on their DS3?

Since my first 754 system I've always run the mobo's auto fan control feature for quiet browsing/cooler gaming but it does not seem to work on my DS3.

No matter how I set:

Fan speed control method
Auto
Intel QST
Legacy
Disable
Fan Control Mode
Auto
Default
PWM

it still does not seem to spin the fan up properly when under load. My previous board which had the feature (all NF3 250GB based) where at 800rpm or something silly idle and 2-3000 under heavy load. It's possible I may not have tried all the setting but I wonder if anyone can offer any thought?

One other thing, I have an Audigy 1 and was wondering whether it would be best to use that or the onboard sound. I'm only using stereo speakers and don't know if the more modern mobo audio will sound better. If not I might as well use the Audigy and not get a performance hit?

I ran a DS3 on test last week with the standard Intel CPU fan and QST enabled - I noticed that the fan wouldn't always spin up straight away when launching a demanding application, rather, it would twitch for a while and then eventually start to spin!

I wasn't concerned by this however, because the Core 2 Duo processors are very efficient and don't run very hot, so I just assumed that it was taking a while for the CPU to meet the BIOS threshold for supplying a practical voltage which would allow the CPU fan to spin continuously. Temps didn't spike at all during this process.

I'd recommend using the onboard HD sound instead of your Audigy PCI.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I would take this stance but I know that this cooler (Freezer 7 Pro) can spin well beyond the 1500 rpm that this mobo drives it. Even when loaded for a while. Somethings not quite right.

As for the sound, well if you recon it'll sound better thats good enough for me. It's not like a 3GHz allendale can't spare a couple of clock cycles for sound eh?
