My mate recently purchased the above and is having some problems with it, think that the ram is faulty.

It fails prime after a few minutes when running in dual channel mode, running either sticks on their own and it seems to be ok though (didn't test for too long as it was late last night)

He's tried updating to the f7 bios from the f4 and also tried different ram slots but it's still the same. It won't even get to windows now without restarting.

He did notice that one stick seems to be getting a lot hotter than the other. My suggestion to try next is to run this stick in the board on it's own and run prime for a few hours to see if it fails. Have also tried upping the memory voltage from default to +0.3v but that makes no difference.

Is it likely that the memory is faulty or the board is having problems running dual channel?

On my AB9 board I updated to the latest BIOS and I had big problems, I downloaded the same BIOS from the .us version instead of the .tw website and it worked fine. That was down to a corrupt BIOS version. Try getting it from a different website.

Have you tried ringing technical support @ OcUK and seeing what they have to say about it?

Don't think it's a corrupt bios as he had the same problems on the original bios.

What if the ram prime's fine in single channel but not dual channel? Would this point to the ram or board? This is what it seems is happening at the moment but haven't had a chance to prime for longer than 10mins.

I'll get him to ring OcUK tech support when he gets a chance also, just thought it maybe worth asking on here first. I personally think it's the RAM myself, especially as there have been a few reports of a faulty batch.

Have you set the memory voltage and timings manually?

On my system (asus P5B with GeIL memory) using "auto" set the voltage incorrectly for the memory timings 4-4-4-12 and made prime fall over.

Once I manually set it to 2.1v things are peachy.

Checked with CPU-Z and mem settings were at 5-5-5-15 and have used dimm voltage of 1.8v-2.1v and still the same.

Does the board have problems running at auto settings? Is it worth trying manual settings?

In my case the GeIL memory SPD doesn't report PC6400 - 800MHz. It reads as PC5300 so auto sets it to 667Mhz with 1.8v

I had to to manually set it to 800Mhz with 4-4-4-12 and 2.1v (check the sticker on the case the memory came in)

Worth trying but if settings are ok then I would try the "warm" stick on its own for a while.

Good Luck!

They don't have problems running the Ram in auto settings, all these boards set the ram to 5-5-5-15, and 1.8v by default (auto), you have to go into the BIOS, press CTRL+F1 to unlock the hidden part, then go into the MIT to see all your ram timings unlocked, then you set them to 4-4-4-12, and up the voltage +0.3v :)

Cheers for the help everyone, tried exactly what you said just after work around 5pm loadsamoney and it was still the same..

My parts should arrive tomorrow anyway so I'll test my ram in the system to determine whether it's the motherboard or RAM.

Rang OcUK Support and they just confirmed what I said to them really, it's either going to be the board or RAM.

Glad I paid the extra for the Crucial 10th Anniversary now as there defently seems to be a bad batch of Geil going around looking at recent posts! (watch my memory be faulty now! :p )

Well problem was the Geil ram, tested with my 10th anniversary kit today and it ran fine dual channel, primed for over an hour.

My mate has sent the kit back and ordered the Crucial aswell now :)
