Hi there,

Having trouble getting my new setup to post:

DS3
2gb Geil PC6400
E6400

Anyone have any suggestions, i think it maybe the ram voltage, anyone know how you get around this?

Plus i have tried all the noob things like mobo not shorting, everything plugged in etc...

Cheers for any help

Anyone ?

I managed to get it to work by reseating the cpu; but then after installing windows i kept on getting random crashes after boot up, anyone think it could be a dodgy cpu ?

Cheers

Have you set the Vdimm to +0.3 = 2.1V in the BIOS? The Geil will need it to run at 4-4-4-12 (max 2.3V).

Could do with more info, like what settings you currently have in your BIOS regarding CPU & memory voltage, memory timings etc.

cheers

As said, check to see if the RAM is undervolting. This can cause a lot of instability.

Also check that the pins in the CPU socket are all straight, as it's weird that the computer booted when you reseated.

Yes i have made sure the ram voltage is +0.3 and have checked the mobo pins and seem fine, also i am using a tuniq tower, can the weight of this thing cause and problems ?

Ulfhedjinn - can i add you to msn?

Cheers

Haven't altered any settings in the bios yet everything is set to auto; could this also be a problem?

Only problem is everytime in need internet access i have to swap my mobo, cpu + ram over :o

I don't think the weight of the Tuniq can cause any problems, at least I've never seen it mentioned on here. I am assuming you've tried other memory voltages, so I don't think that will really be the problem.

Sure thing, I'll try to help as much as possible. :)

If the FSB is at stock then auto should be fine, I would experiment though as the instability you're describing sounds suspiciously like something is undervolting.

Ok cheers,

I have added you now anyway

Im going to have a go at trying everything again and see what happens with a fresh install

Right i have tried everything all again and still nothing, just a black screen with all the fans spinning with the hard disk light staying lit - does this mean anything to anyone ?

Basically i took it all out of the case, took the hsf fan off, reseated the cpu again! and then put it all back in carefully and still nothing!

I'm sure its the cpu, might have to rma it

Do you know anyone with a Core 2 Duo system so you can swap components around and see which it faulty?

Because it really does sound like it could be absolutely anything. :(

Perhaps try specifically setting the CPU voltage to 1.325V.

Is your PSU up to the components you have?

cheers

PSU should be fine because I think he's using it at the moment, and C2D uses a fair bit less power than Athlon X2.

My money is on the CPU to be honest.

Ye i have a 485w Enermax so should be fine, thing is i cant even get it to post so cant change any options in the bios so more likely to be a hardware fault

I have put in a rma request for the cpu now anyway

I very much doubt its the cpu.

IM on msn

I suggest you go there ;)

Hmmm... you should get some beeps, even if it's just one to say it's working fine.

Try making sure the speaker is plugged in to the correct place.
