My Gigabyte 965 DS3 just died, whilst in the process of upgrading my GPU to a GTX280. Bit gutted as I was hoping to be up and running this evening. Anyway after spending a few hours attempting to get the motherboard to post I finally gave up.

I'm not rich enough to justify a CPU upgrade for a few months now so it's motherboard only for now. I'm just after something quick and cheap to use with my current CPU which will allow me to overclock from 2.4ghz to 3.0ghz, as I have been for the last 2 years.

I was considering a like for like board in the old 965 DS3. Are there any better alternatives. Perhaps a newer board that can still take the Conroe CPU, with a CPU upgrade early next year.

Thanks

So there are no problems running my old CPU then. I know the spec sheet mentions Core Duo support, but I was concerned that my particular model would not work due to it being a few years old now.

Anyone else recommend a cheaper alternative? £60 currently spare or wait till payday for the Asus

sorry forgot to mention I need Raid on the board too. Thanks for the suggestion Mike. After a little searching I'm checking out the stats for those P35 boards. Shame OCUK are out of stock on the cheaper ones.

I just took delivery of a GTX280. Unplugged the PC, opened her up and removed/replaced graphics card. Noticed additional power cables were required so fitted those to my power supply and booted up. Nothing happened.

Panicked thinking the new card was broken so after reseating it a few times I tried my old card (8800GT) and same problem. Tried with no card. Tried allsorts including removing the bios battery and resetting the CMOS. This thaffing about went on for a few hours till I was really miffed. Made even worse by the fact that I got a new 24" monitor too thats now just sitting there with a cover over it.

Okay. Since I posted this thread I have emailed Gigabytes support site. It seems my board is still under warranty. However I've heard from other posts I'll be lucky to get a reply this year.

Edit. Has been overclocked since 5th December 2006. *checks order history:)

Edit. just got a reply asking for the serial number. Automated mind but it guarantees contact within 48 hours
