Got my new setup today which consists of -

E6300
DS3
2Gb Crucial 10th Anniversary
Artic Cooler 7 Pro (may replace with Tuniq Tower - will have to leave case side off though)

Very impressed with this setup so far, priming at 3.4Ghz and no errors so far!! (1/2hr)

However, I noticed the northbridge HS gets very hot, so hot that you can't touch it! Is it safe running it this hot? I've put a 80mm fan blowing over it as temporary measure. Would it be worth getting a 40mm chipset cooler?

Also, finding the Artic Cooler great so far, 58c underload at the moment at 3.4ghz and 1.4v - this is with the side of the case off though, rises by over 5c with it on!! It's a CM101 so airflow isn't the best.

Yip it gets very hot. It doesn't seem to do any harm, but neither would an active solution.

Bit worried as I've never known a NB to get this hot! Still hotter than I would like with an 80mm fan blowing over it.

Stable so far though at 3.4Ghz (486FSB) so can't be too bad :)

Now running prime at 3.5Ghz (500FSB)

NB is still hotter than I'd like but these 6300's are far better than I imagined!!

Zalman Fan bracket and a nice 120MM fan over the NB should do the job.

This will cool the ram too. :)

Do OcUK sell these? :)

Seems to be stable at 3.5Ghz so far using 1.4v but tbh I don't think it even needs that much! Shame that the board or Ram is going to hold me back before the CPU... it should be good for 4Ghz+

May need to invest in some better cooling, thinking about running with the side off permentatly. Currently at 62c load (using core temp) with the AC HS/F with the side off. Going to need some better cooling to push this I think.

yes,

wanna keep below 60c

go water and cool that cpu and NB matey! :D

Yeah, that NB does get a tad warm doesnt it?

I have a pair of 60mm fans blowing over my GFX Card and onto the NB and its doing a great job... The NB is now stone cold.

Im running 480FSB with 4 x Geil6400

Im looking for a good AIR solution for the NB though. Im looking in fact to overhaul the cooling completely in the DS3 PC, including Case, GFX, NB and CPU, but on Air only. I have considered water, but then taking into account that I have 3 Water cooling systems now in boxes as they are no longer used, I am a bit worried in case this one will go the same way... Cooling a PC these days with water I am finding is almost a redundant idea, given how cool CPUs are today.

Like you, I have been hitting 60c but this morning, I cleaned out any dust ( The other week my GFX card was clogged up and only now have I cleared the whole PC up. and the dust was shocking, however, now, Im runing FAH on both cores, and I have just played UT2K4 for a few rounds and the CPU has not gone over 48c so thats fine by me.
