I had contacted gigabyte and ask about the clip on fan they have on some boards for the northbridge becuase temps where hitting 55. This is the exact reply I got from gigabyte which has settled my mind and hopefully others worried about the same thing.

"Sorry no fan is required if the temp is above the specified (90 degrees Centigrade) please return board to vendor for physical inspection or RMA.

Thank you.

GGTS"

Sorry if people have already posted this sort of info .

I tried the akasa one and had problems with it sticking to the NB as it dont have pins for pushing into the board it just has adhesive paste. I then tried the THermaltake Extreme Spirit , this one works well but fan can be noisy so I took the blue fan of the akasa and fitted it to the heatsink on the thermaltake and it seems to be doing the job well with no noise...

Just fitted ThermalTake Extreme Spirit to my DS3 but it seems noisy, seeing as it is passive would it be worthwhile leaving fan un-connected?

I just fitted a 40mm x 20mm akasa low noise blue led fan to the stock nb cooler. Can't say I can hear the fan, it's rated at around 26db and pushes around 5-6CFM but it does the job. When I initially got it it looked like it wouldn't fit but using the supplied screws it holds itself to heatsink if positioned squarely on the nb cooler.

Similar to IAmATEAF I used the 40mm x10mm blue led fan that came off an akasa AK210 chipset cooler. It pushes 5.2cfm at 20db, I find it does the job quite nicely and I cannot hear it.
