While attempting a bit of an overclock on an E6600 with a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 I discovered that the Northbridge was becoming reasonably hot, hot enough so that I couldn't touch it for more than a few seconds. I've reverted back to stock everything but it's still the same. Is this normal or should I worry about it?

Thanks :)

I used to have a DS3P with a overclocked E4300 and the NB heatsink on that was absolutely roasting. At least it's doing it's job. You could always point a fan at it or fix a 40mm fan to it.

Thanks, I've attached a 40mm fan to it for the moment and here are the idle temperatures so far:

I assume Temp2 is the system temperature? Also, I'm running this without a case at the moment, possibly causing a lack of airflow?

Well yeah, the NB is gonna be pretty hot if you have no ambient temp control. Though your temps don't look bad at all, it's pretty normal for the NB on those chipsets to be hot, I'd keep the fan there. :)

Thanks, do the CPU temps look alright too? Would prefer if they were a bit lower, using a Tuniq Tower, however the fan seems to be running at a fairly low RPM which may be causing the temperatures? :)
