Hi

I am buying a 4300 in the next few days and i was struck on having a DS3, but read a lot of good things bout the p5n SLi.

I wont be using SLi in the near future.. but i am an overclocking noob so which ever is friendly with doing the least work to overclock would be the better option.

Any advice on a 2gb kit would also be helpful!

Thanks a lot!

Matt

I think the P5N-E is supposed to be easier to overclock to higher rates due to its annate flexibility, but flexibility means more options, so it kinda swings in roundabouts. Personally I decided on the P5N-E and it'll be arriving with me today :)

Like you I a fairly new to overclocking and have found the P5N-E to be very easy to work with. It helps that you can overclock the cpu independently of the ram, so you can get away with using ram of a lesser quality and still get a good cpu overclock. I am using the geil c4 memory and have no problems with it at all but I am only running the ram at stock.

The ability to run your cpu independently from the ram sealed the deal for me as well. Asus here I come.

Meh ds3's and any 965 board demand good ram, and ram is way too expensive these days, go for a mobo with ability to let ram run slower as cpu...

for the love of god get the P5N!!!

i got an S3 (pretty much a DS3) the other day and its been giving me hassle after hassle! and i'm not the only one it does it to. ive had to replace it once already and had a scare earlier tonight where it was not even getting to the post screen and was just hanging with no beeps at all.

I think the first ones on the market were basically excess stock from a major system builder. THe 'official' boards are a good £10-£15 more expensive than the ones most of the early adopters bought a couple of weeks back.

so are you saying there not worth buying .

I'm getting a P5N shortly so will happily do a little comparison although if you take a peek in the P5N thread you'll notice WJA has sold his DS4 (better than the DS3) in favour of this board.

My P5N-E is arriving tomorrow, looks to be a great board by all accounts, though has some VDroop problems.

As for all the competitor price talk, I've removed it all and given a holiday to the worst offender, any more talk and you'll earn yourself an all expenses paid holiday from the forums.
