I've heard that the DS3's are excellent for OCing, but could anyone here reccommend a similar board, for slightly less in price? Like the S3 perhaps, is that reasonably good?

775 Socket of course.
 
Well for £10 less, methinks it's not worth sacraficing the lifespan. Any other boards, around the DS3 pricetag, that OC just as well?

This pc is for my parents', and I don't thinnk they'll upgrade again (after this one) until after the 3 years mark.

They're using a 2.4 Celeron Laptop and don't think it's slow.... My my they'll be in for a shock when I get them a freshly overclocked E4300.
 
I'd got with one of the new Asus boards. Lots of people have issues with their DS3 when they update the the bios for their boards.
 
It's kinda hard when you need to update to fix issues you are having.

It's that simple. I'd rather not have an xfi that uninstalls every ******* time you reboot. To fix that, you need a bios update.

Nothing wrong with the DS3 BIOS updates, I flashed every one from F4 to F10 and never had a single problem with my DS3 ever. I regret getting rid of it, and should've just spraypainted it black.

which new Asus board did you get ,and do u recommend them ? :confused:
 
I didn't get another board. I can live with the reboot cycle as it isn't really a problem. I just like Asus, I'll have a look later at their boards. I like the look of the P5N though.

Oh right,well take a look at this review ,they really are a nice board ,as are all the 680sli ..some people do have problems ,as you do with anything you get ,but its only a minor thing .

or You can get Gigabyte 965P-DS3P rev 2.0 futures almost same as DQ6 ;) despite de fact that all fanless cooling been ripped off in DS3P :)
 
I quite fancy the Gigabyte DS3P rev3.3 when Overclockers eventually get round to stocking it.

Read a good review on it. Its basically an improved DS3 with sold state capicitors for better o/cing with great bios and support for 1333FSB etc with addition of extra sata's and firewire (which I need)

I'd get a P5N-E or a P5B, but that's just because I trust Asus really.

These 2 Asus boards are both relatively cheap and great overclockers.

LOl, this is doing my head in. I've read and re-read about all these boards for ages and i'm no clearer now than 2 months ago and I need to order this week as old PC packed in last night (thats another story)

I'll have another read on these 2 :)

It's a difficult choice, but all the boards mentioned in this thread are excellent. At the end of the day, just allow yourself to be swayed one way or the other.:)

I like the P5N-E because it allows you to run the RAM in unlinked mode (you set the speed of the RAM and it stays at that speed no matter what the FSB).
