For some reason this Realtek HD Sound manager won't recognise my surround speakers and center (just stereo left+right sound). I have it connected via optical to an Yamaha system.

There onto the 5th version and still is crap.

No way of manually setting the 5.1 option? Either in realtek control panel itself or in the windows sound cp..

I know my realtek onboard audio (when I used the hideous pile of retarded poo) could recognise which port I had a jack plugged into. Maybe if it can only tell you've got optical out plugged in then it assumes it's a 2.1 system. Try hunting for an option to set it to 5.1. You can try setting it in windows cp if you don't find an option in realtek and then see if that works.

Thanks for the reply.

I've both tried setting 5.1 in windows sounds and realcrap cp (if changed from realcrap cp it updates in windows).

I'll see what happens when I run ubuntu.
