Got my new C2D system other day, and didnt realise the DS3 only has one IDE port (i have 4 IDE devices). Anyways, i have one SATA HD (think it will be SATA 1) and planning on getting a SATA 2 hard drive. Is the DS3 SATA 1 or 2 and when i get the SATA2 HD will they both run at SATA 1 speeds?

Yeah all P965 boards have only one IDE socket. Intel didn't want any so the board makers had to bolt on a 3rd party IDE controller.

And the DS3 will run both SATA I and II drives fine.

I am in the same situation.

I have been using an extra PCI Card before this board, and among the better ones I have used in the past, is my ITE8212 IDE Card. Its a non-bootable one, which is what I want, and it allows me to use anythign in it, while a lot of them only seem to want HDs, this one can play with anything.

SATA I or SATA II

The Orange connections ( There are 4 ) are SATA 1 and the Purple ones are SATA II ( Correct me if Im wrong on that one )

The SATA II ( Purple ones ) can act as IDE or RAID and these are the other 2 that are shared with the normal IDE port

AFAIK you can use SATA 1 or 2 in any of the ports
