Not sure if its the mobo or maybe the graphic card or a combo or even something else but here goes... whenever I boot up the computer I have my desktop set to windows classic style and and theme windows classic so my taskbar is the plain old grey with old style start button .... but sometimes I have to go in and reset this cause it boots up with same blank background ok BUT the taskbar is windows XP with the big green start button ... any ideas ? This is a new build and clean install of windows . BTW mobo is not yet flashed to latest version. Thanks .

I have it where I set the Theme to Classic and it does this and looks great and how it should, but when I restart, it gives me an ever-so-slightly corrupt WinXP Luna-style theme, where it looks right, if it was the Luna theme but the buttons etc are too small.

Not figures that one out, but it has happened a few times when I have tried out a custom CD but why it happens I have not figured out yet.

Its annoying because any other theme except the Classic one looks fine after a restart, its only the Classic theme that does this, and thats the one I want.

I think you have to start by making sure you have the latest graphics card drivers installed for your card. It's unlikely - but an overclocked graphics card could also possibly be an issue.

I would then set everything on the graphics one way or the other ie. Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance -> Best Performance or Best Appearance.

After that you can turn on or off any unwanted features, but it should be 'normalised'.

I seriously doubt any kind of issues with the graphics card would cause one theme to look half like one and half like another?

Artefacting, or snowing etc, but the windows being Classic and the Startbar being Luna ( It seems for him anyway ) would be nothign to do with the drivers or overclocking surely?

Yep, I fail to see how it could possibly be the graphics card. If it was displaying the theme wrongly, then yes. If it displays the wrong theme, it's just showing what it's been given. If it were me, I'd reinstall windows, it seems the obvious suspect.

It depends what area of the screen the graphics card thinks it should be painting the overlay onto. All the controls on the desktop are common. The only thing that changes is the skin painted onto the component. If, through drivers, windows or whatever else (and bear in mind he has said this is a clean install of windows) the graphics card thinks it's not got to draw the images in a particular way, then who knows what the outcome might be.

In any event, you should always run the latest graphics card drivers!

Yeah give the latest 6.12's a try as they finally added support for the x1950 XT into them, those drivers on the CD prob cause no end of probs as they are just an old bodged set that have been modified just to get you up and running until they got some officialy supported drivers out. :)

Im not convinced the drivers will cure it.

I do hope they will of course I do, but I doubt it.

New drivers do not necessarily mean that all previous bugs will be gone, because they can ( And often do ) bring new problems.

Any chance of a screen-shot mate? Lets see what you are getting?
