ds3p boot and install issues

Help pls. I have just set up a ds3 that wont allow me to do an install of the operating system. I have placed a brand new unformatted a fdisked sata 2 hard drive into the macine that will not allow a windows install. I can access the bios on the ds3p and am running in native/legacy ide mode. After exiting the bios I get a quick screen of the devices which the bios has detected and then it just hangs. I am obviously doing something wrong and so I hope you guys could help me out. Thank you.

Fdisk is from windows 98 isnt it? Have u tried with a properly NTFS formated drive, and have u checked the bios that its not looking for floppy and hard drive has boot priority?

Try installing with the disk connected to the purple SATA connectors and make sure the BIOS for the GigaSATA2 is set to IDE mode, also change the main SATA controller to AHCI. Assuming the install goes through OK, install all the drivers including the Intel Matrix drivers and then shutdown the system and plug the disk back into the yellow SATA connector.

Well I have ported them over from the purple (gigabyte) slots but it did not like the AHCI. The drives are showing up in windows though

Remember you have to set the Intel SATA ports to AHCI and then install the required drivers before you move the drive(s) across.

I assume I have done that unless I am mistaken?
Under device manager in IDE ATA/ ATAPI CONTROLLERS it shows
Intel (R)ICH8 2 port serial controller and
Intel (R) ICH8 4 port serial controller

When I tried to change the main SATA controller to AHCI windows just kept on rebooting?

So the disk is connected to the purple SATA connectors and boots up into Windows? The BIOS is set to AHCI for the main Intel SATA ports? With it in this state you should be able to install the Intel drivers, may need a reboot. After this has completed then move the disk over. The above is exactly what I did to get my OS disk onto the Intel SATA port running in AHCI mode.
