DS3P Version 3.3

Is 3.3 the latest version off this board? My friend is selling a version 2, is 3.3 the best?

3.3 are the latest, added official support for 1333 FSB. I have a rev2 DS3P mobo which I bought last month and an running it no probs. As to what's the best, have heard reports that the latest 3.3 mobos don't overclock as well as the older boards but then again I remember seeing 1 user post that they got tremendous overclocks on a 3.3 so can't really say till more people try them out.

You can't update the version yourself, can you? Yer well I will see what price my friend offers me the board for, otherwise I will go for a new version 3.3

No you can't, the rev number is a hardware revision number and the revisions in some cases also use differing BIOS'es.

You can you updated to the latest BIOS via gigabytes website though, can you?

You can update to the latest BIOS for that mobo and revision yes but sometimes you can't flash a rev2 mobo with a rev3.3 BIOS, you'd need to check on the manufacturers website to be honest to see what they say.

I have just got a DS3P to replace a P5Ne and it seems to overclock quite well, currently got a e6300 at 3ghz without any effort and it seems very stable.

A DS3 Rev. 3.3 and a DS3P are two different motherboards, I think.

He's on about two different revisions of the DS3P though.

I have a rev 2 board and it really is a superb clocker. See siggy. :D

I think the bios is the same on both revisions. Rev 2 is on F4 and rev 3.3 is on F4 (the only one so far). Both bios were released at the same time so they might well be the same.

Yes - I see that now. Thanks for that. I'm very confused. I've just been and had a look at Gigabyte's website.

For 4 basic models - S3/DS3/DS4/DQ6 there are 14 different BIOS types. Incredible.

How a retailer or customer is supposed to keep a track of that lot is beyond me.

I asked 2 non-OcUK resellers and they said even though they had stated revision on their sites they couldnt guarentee a revision. 1 amended their site, the other strangely left it and no amount of prompting could get them to be bothered to update.

DS3 has been out since at least summer last year and they have made v1, v2 and rev 3.3 of most of the list in previous post.

I bought the DS3P from OCUK last week and it was rev2, I was hoping for 3.3 but you can't have everything. It runs sweet though and Im sure Ill be able to get more juice out of the CPU if I try.

Who fills in the product descriptions? Stevie Wonder?

I got the DS3P from OCUK last week as well, the manual states its rev 2 but the box states it supports 1333fsb cpu's which i believe is the rev 3.3.
Are there any markings on the board to indicate what rev it is?

Well, with my legal beagle hat on, the specification very clearly says it's a Rev. 3.3 so you should send it back and ask for a Rev. 3.3 and they should pay the carriage in both directions. It's clearly inaccurate as they are advertising the Rev. 3.3 and supplying a Rev. 2.0.

As pointed out above the box will still say rev2 but it will have a big sticker on it saying support for 1333. Have a look at the mobo, at the rear of the board along the left hand side top edge it will say what revision it is.
