Hey guys just seeing if the new intel cpu's will be compatable with the DS4 revision 1. Looking at e6850 in particular so you think they'll release new bios or will i be looking for new board, or possibly look at the Q6600 instead.

Have you checked the gigabyte site for the latest bios support? I would grab you a link, but i really hate the gigabyte site. Its infuriatingly slow.

According to Gigabyte only the Revision 3.3 boards (DS3, DS4 & DQ6) will be 1333MHz compatible.

The last but one BIOS release for each of the boards listed above said:

1333MHz FSB Support (Rev. 3.3 Only).

Quite how the BIOS update will be able to tell which revision of motherboard it has been installed on I don't know - but that is the official line from Gigabyte.

I too currently have a Revision 1 DS4 - if it ever runs with a 1333MHz CPU I'd class that as a bonus, not going to rely on it.

yeah, looks like my idea of a e6850 is gonna be down to whether i can sell my DS4. guess i could just go quad but wouldn't mind trying to overclock the e6850 which should be easier than the quad....

TBH I don't see why it wouldn't run on it, its only an FSB bump, and people are quite easily running DS3/4's well over 1333FSB... hell i'm running 1800FSB now and thats a conservative OC!

Correct. Almost all the current "1333MHz" compatible boards are actually compatible only in that they will boot the CPU at 1066MHz and allow you to overclock it manually. This is the case for almost all ASUS and Abit boards. I don't see the Gigabyte ones being much different.
