The search function isn't letting me do what I want...

Anyway, me and someone else (apologies, can't even remember who it was) was discussing the potential problems of running an adaptec SA1210 SATA RAID card on the DS4.

Well, I tried to plug my 2 drives into the SATA ports on board, but that fell flat on it's arse.

I plugged the SA1210 in, and inside 20 minutes I had Windows running on a RAID-0 array.

Tonight, I have to reconnect my other two 250Gb drives to SATA, but luckily I don't need RAID on those, so it looks like i'm sorted :D

I'm not a RAID user at home.
I am however a DS4 user so I'm interested in this thread :)
What issues were you having with the DS4 and RAID?

You've got two potential onboard RAID controllers - the one built into the ICH8R which can do RAID 0,1,5 & 10.
There is also the Gigabyte RAID controller which can do RAID 0 and 1.
Did you try both of the built-in solutions?
What exactly went wrong?

I had major problems with a SATA DVD-RW drive with the DS4 - although I don't run RAID I do run the onboard SATA Controller in AHCI mode and I'm pretty sure this was causing me a lot of grief as when I moved back to using PATA optical drives the OS installation went fine.

Well, I plugged in both drives into each of the controllers.

I think it's to do with setting "RAID" on the SATA chip in the BIOS - I can't remember too well as I am at work.

When it booted then you usually got a screenful about Intel Controller, and then the PC hangs if I try and get into the Intel BIOS for RAID.

In the end I popped my SA1210 back in, hooked up both drives to that, and I was away.

I'll fill in more info tonight
