i just downloaded this off the gigabyte website as an exe file, i open the file and it brings up a dos window, i then press y to extract, it finnishes but nothing gets on my floppy disc!?

are you supposed to just put the exe on the floppy?

Thats the one i have downloaded! and it isnt extracting anything to the location it says it is :s

meatloaf if your right then how come their is an f6 driver on the website

Its for if youre using RAID - ie two drive operating as a single partition.

If you have your hard drive on the upper sata ports you dont need the driver.

I know that for a fact as i have a DS4 ;)

i just downloaded it again and its worked, it extracted aload of files to the desktop

another quick question, i will be using a 250gb seagate as a storage drive, should i use the gigabyte controller for this or same controller as raid

Nah.

If you downloaded the file I linked to, it will not extract a load of files to the desktop.

If you downloaded the full driver set then it will if you don't give it a proper destination folder.

well i downloaded to the desktop, if u download it to my documents it will extract to my documents, if u download it to desktop it will extract to the desktop...

i downloaded the drivers and done the f6 ect.. then when it says starting windows (going to windows xp setup) i get a blue screen!! it does this with my 80gb western digitsl drives too, so i have either got a dodgy controller or the drivers were the wrong version.

on the gigabyte website, theirs 3 versions of the ds4, 1.0 , 2.0 and something else, which has only apeard recently so im ruling that out. Im going to try the 1.0 as i downloaded of the 2.0 mobo page... if i get another bluescreen, would u say i should attempt an rma?

any help is much apreciated!!

There are 2 different downloads for the sata drivers.

Using this one - http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=Driver&FileID=2780

You run the downloaded .exe file and it will extract to a folder which it asks you to confirm. Then in that folder you will find a file called 'F6flpy32.exe' which you run and make the floppy you need during the Windows install. This is the Windows XP driver.

So you never did use the link I provided to the drivers to create a floppy disk needed for the install.

I'll leave you to it.

I did, BEFORE I posted my initial post.
The file downloaded is called - motherboard_drver_raid_intel_ich8r_bootdisk_2.0.exe
Running it suggests a folder which you can modify. If you don't it will CREATE a folder called f6flpy32 at the default location. In that folder is ONE file called F6flpy32.exe. Running that file will prompt you to insert a floppy to write the files to.

you still backup this post then? because it doesnt extract to a folder which asks me to confirm, and it doesnt extract a file named f6flpy32.exe

il take a screenshot

Hell, yes.

I have Winrar installed which is associated with this type of executable archive. That opens and gives the dialog to select the install/extract folder.

winrar is installed on here too, but even still right clicking and selecting winrar to extract, it extracts 8 files to desktop, which im pretty sure you put on floppy, as the xp f6 setup proccess recognised it.

do you have windows xp???
