i dont know how to minitor cpu temps during 3dmark sorry

In TAT, click Options then Output preferences. Set a location for the log file. Then after testing, open that log file in notepad and look at the temps.

3DMark is a test of the graphics card(s) - it only does the CPU test for a few seconds, so it would not surprise me that the CPU is not maxed out long enough to reach it's top temperature.

Good call on the Eclipse - what fans are you planning on using?

As for artifacts in your graphics - are your graphics card(s) overclocked at all? That sounds a more likely cause than anything to do with your CPU.

Just re-reading your original post - I would turn the CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) back on as that is your throttling control. Without it, you could fry your CPU.

Im only getting these artifacts in 3DMark06 so maybe it was a bad install or something, i still havnt managed to redownload it so am not sure.

2142 still runs really poorly.. with Crap fps drops and stutters, High temps is all i can think of which could be causing this, as i have changed all my parts apart from the 2 western digital hdd's.

at the moment im sticking with an antec tricool for the intake, which has a 3 speed setting on it. And a normal akasa green led for exhaust.
 
Have you checked task manager to see if theres anything hogging cpu time or any other odd task running that shouldnt be?

Is there anything that came from your old system? hardware/software that may have an infection perhaps? if so unplug/disinfect and try
running a few tests.

Unfortunately sounds like its going to be a nasty case of trial and error :(
 
I'd RMA the board as it doesn't sound right at all. I'm using a DS4 at the moment and it just flies. No stagger, no stutter, just lovely.
 
i would only have to pay to get the board sent back as it still works ok

anyway the eclipse has done nothing at all!!

The cabling has improved massively,
now tats telling me core temps are 56/56 idle

maybe it could be a bad chip or mobo?

60 fps on BF2142 with med details is reasonable with your hardware imo. And what did you expect a new case to achieve? They aren't the answer to colling problems in 99% of cases. I would have re-seated the CPU as you have and compare Windows software temp readings with your BIOS temp readings to rule out bad sensor.

Re the stuttering in Windows, sounds like you need to reformat and forget the RAID.
 
i wanted a new case which is easy to get in and out, as im replacing parts a lot

Iv taken some pics of my pc, it doesnt look healthy at all, i think im too heavy handed with my components..

I normaly spread the paste across the heatsink but this time i did it different which didnt change a thing
 
I had similar-ish problems which seem touch wood to have rectified. I'm not sure if I can exactly put my finger on what improved the situation but try fiddling round with the pci setting in bios (I think mine's 128) and possibly set the pci-e frequency to 105.
 
does anyone else get scratch marks on their cpu?? Do you think it would affect temperatures?

I have just order a spych infinity and some arctic silver 5, surly if my temps stay idling at 50 their is something wrong with either the chip or mobo

Yes, scratch marks on the CPU surface are pretty normal. Good thermal compound should fill any gaps. There is a tendency now for cooler manufacturers to put huge layers of TIM on the bottom of the cooler and that will definitely fill any gaps.

It is possible that your heat spreader on the CPU is dished and the cooler is not making good contact. Or the cooler is dished. If you want to try another stock or aftermarket cooler I'll quite cheerfully lend you one or both.
 
Bear in mind that thermal paste doesn't settle down properly for some weeks after you apply it - so you can't expect accurate temp readings until then for your cpu.
