Hey all, i've been having issues with my conroe setup for a while now but i haven't been that bothered because the weather is nice outside and its stable enough to go on msn and use the internet.

Well at the moment i'm using the latest official bios from Gigabyte and using only one stick fo ram. I leave everything at default in the bios and i can run memtest 8m and higher and it would be stable. But if i try to play a game it will lock up after a couple of minutes of playing - the speakers would just make a high pitch whiney noise.

Im just wondering if this is a power issue or the motherboard? My psu is a Tagan 480w psu - Tagan TG480-U01

It is powering:
dvd rw
80 + 160 + 200 gb sata hd
Gigabyte Ds4
6400
x1800xt 512
fan controller

Thanks

Tagan 480-U01
Gigabyte DS4
E6600
2 x Seagate 7200.10 320GB
1 x Pioneer 111D
2 x 1GB G.Skill Hz
1800XT
4 fans

No problems (now)

I did have random hangs in games / windows until I noticed that one of the spring clips on the heatsink / heatpipe was not attached correctly allowing the heatsink to rise and not cool the chipset (doh !) - might be worth a look.

Hey thanks for the reply! i played a game demo yesterday and it crashed within five minutes of playing, then i tried it again but this time i opened up easy tune and i cool (i cool made the fan go on full - was v.loud though). I started to play the game and it didn't crash at all.

Since then i uninstalled the two applicatoins and then installed newer versions, and easy tune doesn't work. Is there any program i can use to control the speed of the cpu fan?

Thanks

Speedfan doesn't seem to control the fans and the automatic Gigabyte control seemed poor so I 7 volted all of my fans.
