DS4 RMAd - what next ?

Well my DS4 is going back as it turns out to be a rev 1.0 and sometimes wont start up. (just reboots and reboots until you pull the plug)

I cant get a guarantee of a v2 or v3 from the supplier so am going to look at something else.

I am also RMAing my OCZ RAM as it could also be guilty by association

So my question is can I get some advice regarding what to replace it with and some memory to go in it which will definately work. As memory has come down in price I have about £270 to play with for both.

Saw the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) at £115.14 which comes recommended.

I also thought about the P5B Wifi but seems pretty long in the tooth now and thought I might look at a 680 ?

What do you think ?

Thanks

PS - can I do anything to get the Noctua NH-U12 to be monitored by the BIOS ? Has only a 3 pin fan but seems daft it doesnt have a 4 pin fan like my old Arctic Cooler 64

Well it would help to know what CPU you have. I've been looking at the 650i board for myself but that's mainly because it has 2 IDE channels. It's a good bit cheaper and without a lot of the teething troubles that the 680 has been having. If you want to go with a tried and tested motherboard then you can't beat the DS3. You could try asking gibbo what revision boards they have in atm.

hi

ive just got a ds4 and it was also rev 1 so far though i have had no problems ive also updated with latest f8 bios

is there a problem with the rev 1 boards????

cheers

I have a 6400
I discounted the DS3 originally because I dont think it has firewire ?
I think theres a new DS3P version out now though which does.

You'll be fine with a Revision 1.
I have one - when it shipped it had the F1 BIOS (I had one of the very first ones).
The reboot issue is just with certain memory modules and will be evident on any revision of the DS4 - inability of the memory module to correctly function at the default SPD voltage of 1.8v (it want's 2.1v).

My memory didnt work at its recommended voltage of 2.1v when I set it in the BIOS.

Worked most of the time, just sometimes it just kept rebooting over and over.

I think the rev 1. just seems more picky about which types of memory you put in it.

Recommended by who? If you are talking about the reviews then I don't recognise most of the names and at least some of the product reviews are just plain lies.

And have you RMA'd the kit or returned it for a refund? If it's an RMA then they send you another one the same.

I didnt get it from OCUK and am returning it for a refund.

I havent actually returned it yet as want to buy a new board before I send it back.

Have read a fair amount of positives on these very forums from people who have this memory.
