I used the Gigabyte Sata controller.

It was the only sata drivers I had on floppy for the windows install.

I would like to know if there is any difference between this and the intel controller.
 
The Intel SATA connectors are much better than the Gigabyte. The Gigabyte connectors are using a JMicron controller which is not so good. Have a look for some reviews of the motherboard they usually test both.
 
Yes but you will need to put the Intel drivers on a disk, they are on the CD that came with the motherboard. In the manual it tells you how to create the disk.
 
You only need to fart around with SATA drivers if you're installing onto RAID.
 
If you dont turn on AHCI in the bios to use the full features of SATA like NCQ then no you dont need drivers but you will also have a slower running hard disk. I made the mistake of installing without turning AHCI on and was unable to turn it on afterwoods without windows not booting.
 
Now that I've installed Windows.

Can I unplug the sata cable from the Gigabyte controller and plug it into the intel controller and still boot to windows?
 
yes if you install the intel ahci drivers first and have it selected as ahci in your bios
so first go into bios select that you want ahci for the intel controller
2nd you install the drivers from intel
3rd you shut drown computer and mover you cables over from the gigabyte to the intel ports
start up and it will work as that how i did it when i forgot to install them first time

how much slower
 
I found it to be quite noticeable. This is with a SATA II Seagate Baracuda 320Gb 16mb. If you have a older hard disk the difference may not be that much but if your hard disk supports these features why run it like an older IDE hard disk. As far as I know these features arent used if AHCI is not enabled. I think the manual has this information. I've not got mine at the moment so cant confirm.

i did this and got it to work
