Evening all,

I've been thinking about this for a while, but unfortunately never when I'm near my manual...

Is there a way of getting DSC to give you a little more room to play and learn the cars limits, while not turning it off completely?

I'd like a little more rope, but not so much that I hang myself when I run out of talent...

Nope.

You do realise there are two types of "off" for the DSC system? One turns off traction, the other stability + traction.

I remember something about Dynamic Traction Control, but truth be told I've never been completely clear on the distinction between stability control and traction control...

Stability reads direction sensors, accelerometers and gyros to determine which direction the car should be heading, and utilities independent wheel braking (and sometimes electronic differentials) to pull the car back in line.

Traction just cuts power when slip is detected, which can also be in a straight line.

So if I hit the button once & make the DTC light come on I can be clumsy / a hooligan / a clumsy hooligan while remaining invincible to the laws of physics should I get it horribly wrong?

The exact operation of your DSC system depends on which model of BMW you have (and I'm not sure which yours is).

Mine is HEADRAT's old 2003 Z4 3.0i SE...

Well, except for the little detail that stability control can't negate the laws of physics, yes, it will allow you to break traction, but will still attempt to keep the car on the black stuff.

Well obviously stability control won't cut it, but we're talking Dynamic Stabillity Control here!

Dynamic! :p
