I've only had this problem recently, when the phone rings or fax machine goes, my internet connection breaks for about 10 seconds, then works again. I have micro filers on everything, the phone, fax, sky and router. I've not made any changes it just started by itself, so thinking either a micro filter has broken, or a fault with the BT exchange? Any ideas of what I could do to solve this?

new filter.

Test each ne by taking off, plugging in router, and use mobile to phone landline, and which one disconnects that's your fault.

simples!

We had this problem recently and it went on for about two weeks until I pulled my thumb out and started to find out what was wrong. I suspected a few things like a broken microfilter or dodgy phone line but decided to start with the belkin dsl modem first. I managed to re-flash it with a new firmware and ever since then its been 100% solid again with no disconnects, quite pleased I didnt have to chase bt for an engineer visit. I cant really suss out why the new firmware sorted things out but it did.

Perhaps I'm wrong but as I understand it ADSL filters have no effect on stopping conversations interfering with DSL content they only work the other way around stopping DSL transmissions from interfering with telephone conversations.

Having done a little research it appears I was part wrong and part right. The voice or fax lines can interfere with DSL data transmissions as well as the reverse. But appears voice & answering machines and fax machines damage the DSL integrity due to additional impedance. So although the filters are vital for reliable communications of either they are effectively working to achieve that by a different means in each case. Fascinating.

In some cases it's advisable to use double filters if a digital phone or other device isn't the best quality.
