Hey all,

We recently got connected to Virgin broadband, however the person that lived at our house before I moved in managed to cancel our phone line due to my house mate owing him money.

Now I have contacted BT, and they are reactivating the line in my name on 25th Sept, however they say that we will need to have our DSL line reactivated.

Now the router still says that DSL is available, though we are not able to get online, and Virgin say to contact them on Thursday when the phone line is activated to get the DSL reactivated however it will cost us another connection fee of £30, meaning the first bill will be £90 (Ouch!)

Just wondering therefore how likely it is that we will have to have it reconnected, this will be an inconvenience both financially and time wise (Big projects that require it).

Thanks,

So you've got cable, and the BT line's cancelled?
If the ADSL's been ceased, you'd need to pay your ISP to reactivate it. If your router says it's still connected, it'll probably go off when the line's activated. If not, you'll probably have fun getting BTw to activate ADSL.

Either way, you really don't want to go with Virgin Media ADSL - it's awful...

Sorry, I have ADSL Over the phone line, which still shows as active, but I cant connect, as the phone line has stopped letting us make or receive calls etc.

It won't connect because the ISP's switched it off. Whether you can make calls or not isn't important to the ADSL service.

The problem is that (assuming it's connected a BT Wholesale port) as far as BTw are concerned the ADSL service is connected and associated with an ISP, so they won't accept an order for a new ADSL service...

So why would Virgin have cut us off? They did not know that the line was down..... and there is no chance it will remain DSL enabled when the phoneline is turned back on? It will have the same phone number as before....

Because they're not getting paid for it?

I'd expect BT will break the ADSL service when the line gets reactivated.

My ISP is being paid, I started a new contract with them, that was activated in August, and they have a direct debit set up with my account.

Well I get ADSL + Evening and weekend calls from Virgin for £14.99 a month, however still have to pay £11.75 Line rental to BT each month, but the line was deactivated by an ex-house mate, so is having to be reactivated which happens 25th....

Expect to pay Virgin to get it reactivated then, though it's strange that the modem's synching up but not authenticating...

I know.... Green light on DSL but red light on Internet.... Shame that its gonna cost £60 total to be online!

Ah well going home for the night now....

Just a quick update, BT reactivated our phone line however gave us the wrong phone number back. The line still shows as DSL Active, however after contacting Virgin we will have to wait. They say that BT must send them a confirmation of disconnection letter, which may take until the end of next week. After this they will contact me and evaluate the reactivation, it may or may not take another 7 - 10 days... Either way I am without for a while :/.
