Hi, I just setup this router yesterday and am very unfamiliar with all the settings.

I'm trying to port forward some applications yesterday without any luck.
Normally I'm used to entering the port range, and the pc's ip address 192.168.1.2 and that's it. For some reason there is an extra table to fill out called "source ip", I looked at the instructions and it mentions WAN IP. I enter the [wan ip] - [port]- [local ip] - [port] - [protocol] and it works:cool:, but doesn't the wan Ip change dynamically? entering all this manually is great but what happens when my wan ip changes....

Am I setting this up correctly?, I'm not sure. normally in most routers I create a service then add it to routers firewall, you cant edit the fields on this router you just have to delete the whole exception if it needs altering and do it again. plus as I mentioned the wan ip ? never needed this ever on any router before.

any help appreciated.

anyone :(, wan ip has changed and it predictably stopped working. removed the entry in the port forwarding and reentered it with the new wan ip and applied settings but the port remains closed

:(

I tried leaving it blank didn't work, neither did setting as 192.168.1.1. tried all sorts including putting the pc outside the dhcp range with various ip combinations to no avail.

spent most of 2day messing around with it. I'm not at the pc now so I haven't got any screen shots to hand. Gonna throw the thing out the window next time I see it

wont be back for a day or 2 but this is a screen shot I got my gf to take. I left the entries empty for now.

Where it wants you to enter the Source IP type *.*.*.* instead of an actual IP address. I'd have expected leaving it blank to work but you've already tested that option.

Another possible catch all option is 0.0.0.0

I don't suppose that 'Virtual Server / Port Forwarding FAQ' link tells you anything useful?

Well I am confussed. Popped over today to have a look and its working all of a sudden .

Left Source IP blank entered the port number and pointed it at the correct pc and bam working.
I tried all the methods just to make sure I wasn't cracking up the other day.
*.*.*.* works, blank works, Wan address works... What gives?

Giving it a week or two to make my mind up on the router. Software seems a little flaky at times. On to my next post soon with the lines stats as thats got some ??? as well :p.

Thanks KIA / bremen1874.

Good to hear. You could use one of the pre-defined port forwarding templates to get an idea of how they expect you to add a manual rule.

Yeah leave the source IP blank, sometimes the ASUS routers can be finnicky with port forwards so if it doesn't work try rebooting the router and usually it then works for me.
