I need to buy another DSLR. Don't really care about gear anymore, and am so out of touch with the marketplace. At the moment I have the following but there are issues:

1. Nikon S8000. Brilliant little camera. I sold 150 units of them a few months ago and sold myself one. The problem is that my Windows 7 does not recognise it, I can't buy an external card reader as my silly gaming keyboard requires a pair of USB leads therefore I am totally out of USB ports in my computer. My laptop runs Ubuntu and there is no driver. So the camera is useless to me.

2. In what I thought was a flash of brilliance, I purchased a Minolta Dynax 505si. This is a film camera - I have not had time to even go and buy any film let alone figure out how to work it, load it, find a battery that will power the exposure meter and then develop it.

3. I bought a lens and then found out it won't fit modern Canon DSLR's like old Nikon's do. No idea if the lens is even any good: Canon 200mm F4 prime.

A quick look suggests an EOS 700? I don't know anything about Canon SLR's. I am not bothered about video, would like to be able to move the focus point like I could on my D300s.

I like street photography.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

My first thought would be spend some small change on a card reader and something like the below which is what I've got on my desk.

Or surely there is something you can unplug temporarily while you plug in a card reader to drag some photo off the memory card?

It does seem puzzling that you want to drop a grand on a camera and lens, but haven't bought a USB which will easily connect a camera or card reader for pennies.

My advice would be the opposite, USB devices being left in 24/7 are a liability as far as system stability is concerned. :p
