DSLR Microphone.

I'm in urgent need of an external mic for my 70D as I've been asked to do some filming on Sunday as channel 4 now won't come out to the event because of bad weather(bunch of pansies).
Does anyone know of a mic that's available from any of the big stores I can pick up in store, I don't want to spend loads just something that's better than the internal one.
I'll also try the local camera shop in Romford tomorrow but won't hold my breath.

People seem to rave about Rode mics. That's the make I'd get if I wanted one.
Instead of buying one, could you rent one ?
