Hi

Looking for a good quality DSLR camera - Would also like to get a good distance lens as well.
Going whale watching on a trip to New Zealand shortly - want to get some good shots.
Be good if it can take video as well.

Had a DSLR about 8 years ago which was Nikon 3100.

Thanks in advance for both the helpful and unhelpful comments :)

DSLR is being killed off by Mirrorless cameras but if you really want a DSLR then I would get a used Nikon D500 in good condition and low shutter count, extra battery, good strap system, monopod to help steady yourself on shots and not sure about a lens.
Very fast memory cards, good bags / cases for the gear.
Perhaps some lens filters to mess about with. A guide book on the camera you bought and a load of practice before you go.
