So I'm in the market for a DSLR that would work with my current nikon equipment, mainly my flash. I've only got a Nikon D60 with kit lens at the moment and I'm looking to move into video whilst still being able to use the camera for photography.

Realistically, I know I'm looking at about £1000 for a decent body and extra lens to compliment what I already do. I've outgrown my use of the kit lens for photography so any lens I get would have to be decent for video and photography. Considering a 50/70mm prime and a longer zoom lens but I'm open to suggestions.

Video wise, I'll be doing your normal youtube style videos. Bit of Vlogging with scripted outside use.

What do you guys suggest?

Nikon D7000 + Nifty Fifty (or 35mm prime)

Should be just under £1000

Or did you want a zoom lens and prime within the £1k budget?

I would like a zoom lens in that budget really, but the D7000 seems to have everything I want. What about a second hand D90 to give myself some flexibility? I don't mind recording in 720p

The D90 is a great camera but I don't think you can attach an external mic to it, which seeing as you want to record video will be an issue.

You can pick up a D5100 (which has an external mic port) for about £550, leaving plenty of money left over for lenses.

What would I be looking at if I made the jump to canon then? Considering my flash was only £100 when I bought it, if it turns out to be more cost effective and better flexibility then I could do that.

If you're really cunning with price beating on a certain webiste (competitor I think) you can get a UK D7000 for around £750, I think that's probably your best buy...

Either a D5100 or D7000 will give you good video.

You can continue to use your kit lens or buy a pack with the kit 18-105 lens.
