DSR breaks SLI scaling!

I've been testing some games today as when I set DSR to render at 4k scaling just completely dies!!

Alan Wake and Batman Arkham Asylum are a couple that I've tried.

With DSR set to render at 4k on my 1440p monitor both games hover around the 40-50% utilization mark!

If I turn off DSR at set 4k as a custom resolution and use that down sample method the cards utilization goes right where it should and frame rates are up!

Is there anyway to report this to Nvidia?
 
What happens if you go for 2x your RES (like 2x SSAA) which for you and me will be higher than 4k?

May be wonky as its about 1.5x now correct?
 
No SLI option for me but it will happen and I look forward to when it does. I use DSR on a single card for older games and HL2 looks amazing at 5K and plays very smoothly.
 
I've used DSR with SLI and scaling is fine .. Used it for benching Arkham asylum ... Diddnt exactly watch GPU usage but it maintained 60fps at 4k with 2 970s ,
 
It kinda defeats the objective if DSR breaks SLI scaling :( to properly enjoy DSR i would imagine you would need SLI scaling to work properly. I guess this is a major flaw that nvidia needs to address, im sure they are aware of this though. No harm in reporting it i guess.
 
Its primary aimed at making older games look better so single card will be suffice.

Comment above makes me want to forget FC4 for now and go play HL2 series at 4+K. :)

Yes and check each box (1.2x through to 4x RES) for what you want then in games menu you see new RES(s).

What CPU and mobo combo are you using ?
 
I thought it was primary aimed at all games? My bad i guess...

You can use it in new games but they have pretty good textures to start with and Crysis 3 etc would be lag fest on most RIG's

There is nothing new about this tech apart from Nvidia now do in on dedicated part of the new 900 series GPU's but not sure if its the same on 700 series.

It was same effect nearly from Downsampling (guide on Guru3d forums) or using Super Sampling AA.

Theres a massive difference between DSR and conventional downscaling methods.
DSR renders the game at 4k (or whatever you choose) but doesn't actually change the resolution of the display itself. Which means you can play a game in 4K downscaled, but still have your monitor display in 1920x1080. This is very important when you have a 144hz monitor. Conventional downscaling methods force your monitor to actually display in 4k, which means you will get 60hz max.

Nvidia have also confirmed that DSR is not currently supported on SLI systems. Which explains why the DSR options are missing on my dual 970 system. A little irritating because I bought a second 970, primarily to make use of DSR. I do plan to upgrade to a 4K monitor, but only when 144hz 4K monitors are available.

Actually they dont, they do the same, they render a higher resolution in the buffer then downscale the image to the native screen resolution or whatever the resolution the monitor is set at or it would not be called down scaling, You can not force a non 4k monitor to actually run in 4k.

yeah, however the point he is making is correct, there aren't any tools that allow you to set 4K@120hz+, so nvidia's DSR implementation allows that

That's not correct at all, Nvidia have confirmed that DSR works fine with SLI when using a normal monitor, when DSR doesn't work is if you're using SLI on a G-Sync monitor.

Yes that part is correct thats why i didn't dispute that (you did notice that i didn't dispute that and i highlighted the part i was in dispute with or do i need to put it in red for you) but the rest of the information is important enough to need correcting which i did.
