I currently use the K702 on my main PC for gaming with which I really enjoy. I've been considering changing these out for the DT 1990 Pro and keeping the K702 for on the go gaming on my laptop.

Would I be expecting too much for a vast improvement over the K702, is there a big difference in the two for playing FPS shooters or would the differences be minimal?

I guess things like sound cue, imaging and general accuracy would be good to know between the two.

I have a few pairs of headphones to sell as they are unused plus looks like I can order the DT 1990 pro for around £350.

That's interesting. I'm sure I've read that having a huge soundstage can also be detrimental in some cases.
Maybe I should just buy them and give them a try to see how I get on with them? Or perhaps maybe overkill for the money just to play some games!!!

for competitive gaming the K702 is still the one to beat for it's huge soundstage and lack of bass but for anything else the DT1990 eats them for breakfast, which is why my K702s have been relegated to the wardrobe for a few years.

I basically only play FPS games so was drawn to the DT 1990 as seen them recommended quite often elsewhere online. Obviously I would like the headphones to be as accurate as possible then the rest is up to me or my lack of skill. Do you use your 1990's for FPS gaming or something else?

The DT1990s have very powerful bass and that's no good if you want to hear footsteps. I use my DT1990's for playing games like Witcher 3 and Pillars of Eternity and they are superb for immersive gameplay but for twitch type FPS I would stick with the K702's or if you really want to splash out, the Sennheiser HD800(s) which has an even bigger soundstage and better imaging

Ok that's fair, I don't really want a headphone with more bass. I am fairly happy with the K702, I just thought there may be something more accurate as sometimes it feels a little off point.
I think the HD800s are a bit out of my price point. I was willing to stretch to around £350 at a push.

Ok fair point.
I would have been willing to jump if they were going to be vastly superior but by the sounds of it, I may be disappointed with a chunk of cash out my pocket!
I may just play about and mod my SHP9500 a little and see if I can make them more to my liking.

Thanks, looks like a be as well keep the K702 for now then. I am happy with them to be fair though. I think I've just been considering a change for a while but didn't know what to and the DT1990 seemed an alright for for the money.

Well, I've purchased a set of DT990 Pro as I've been wanting to try a set of Beyers for a while to be honest. They will be added to my collection and likely get rid of the X2HR as they have sat in a box after one use.
I know the DT990 are a different sound signature compared to what I'm usually listening to but all part of the fun I suppose.
