DT770 + big head = a slight problem.

After some advice on this forum, I bought some Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 Ohm headphones.£105 or £110, somewhere around there. Nice kit, noticeably better sound than the not at all bad headphones I had before (Panasonic HTX7). A great buy for the money. They're really enclosed, so much so that they reduce external noise about as much as the 3M 1100 noise-reducing foam earplugs I stuff in my ears so I can sleep during the day (shift work). I'll have to get used to that. They block external noise a fair bit more than the HTX7s I've been using for years.

There's one fly in the ointment, though. I have an unusually large head and the DT770 are significantly smaller than the HTX7. I'm not talking about the clamping force, which I expected to be hard at least initially. They're a bit too tight in that way, but I expect that to loosen a little with use. The more concerning problem is that even at at maximum extension the headband presses onto the top of my head hard enough to be less than optimal. The HTX7 extend far enough for me to be able to fit my fingers between my head and the headband at maximum extension, so I could adjust them for a perfect fit. That's not an option with the BT770 because at maximum extension they're still pushing firmly on the top of my head. That doesn't bode well for long hours of use.

I notice that the headphones are quite highly modular and assembled with screws. I could unscrew and replace just the part connecting the speakers to the headband. If there's one even just a few mm longer, that would be perfect. I'm failing to find such a thing, though. Anyone got any ideas before I start having a go at modifying those parts and voiding the guarantee in the process?
