I'm looking for the easiest way to convert MKV files that currenly have DTS audio on them into AC3 audio without changing the file size or anything else. I tried using Handbrake but it was returning file sizes nowhere near what the source was. Is there an option on there that I may have missed?

Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

From the Kodi thread in Home Cinema

There's a quite a few ways but the way i used to do it was by dropping them into Avidemux.

Drag & drop the file onto it
Leave video stream as Copy
Change audio stream to AC3
Hit configure on Audio output and change the bitrate to desired
Under output muxer change to MKV
Hit the save button

Should only take seconds to a few minutes depending on the size of the file

Download Mkvmerge 2.9.8
Launch the program "mkvextractgui.exe" (it should be in the directory mkvmerge)
Click on the button (with three points) to the right of the "input" field to open your mkv (which is actually in DTS)
Check the "Content" field of the soundtrack
Then click on "extraction", it will extract the mkv in the directory by default

You cannot convert from DTS to AC3 without affecting the file size (it will be smaller).
DTS is much higher bitrate than AC3, AC3 files are typically a couple of hundred Mb whereas a DTS track can be a 1Gb or more (if it is a DTS:MA track).
