Could anyone give me a shot in the dark estimate of how many folding PPD I would get from a Dual 1Ghz PIII with 512mb ram and scsi hdd (I dont know if this makes any difference I doubt it). I have been offered one at what I think is a reasonable price. What do you think this system is worth? I won't post what the offer is just in case I am way off and end up looking like a pillock.

So how many PPD and how much?

Thanks for your help.

Think somewhere in the neighborhood of 120-150 PPD.

It'd make an excellent home bserver if you're looking for something to fill that role. I'd fancy one myself.

Thanks, yeah thats what it was intended for anyway folding was secondary anyway, It was offered at £80 so pretty good deal but its rackmount and a bit beat up.

No swabbles in my thread please :D, O and by the way I passed on the server because it was really beat up.I suppose I could replace the case but I heard it is difficult to build a 2u server is that so? it probably wouldn't be financially viable either.

I think that 120-150 is optermistic. - on current WU's it would be below 100.
I'm bassing this on the 1.2 p3s that i had until recently it did 60ppd with twice the cache (maxing at 105ppd on the 600 pointers)

get a 805 and oc the stuffing out of it - ok it way more that £80 but modern tech with lots of life left in it. Only need a one socket board (955 chip set) some good ram and your off.

I really liked my tualatin but wouldn't touch a P3 now unless budget low and real need to have it now (no time to save)
