I'm planning to pick up a couple of Dell 2007FP's (1600x1200) to run in a dual screen configuration via DVI from my 7800GT, but I whilst reading around I came across this user comment on a review site:

This is a spectacular inexpensive monitor as long as you are using only one monitor and/or VGA. If you have a video card with only DVI-I support, you can use one of these monitors, but not two. What happens is that the "primary" monitor will come on, but the "secondary" monitor will enter "power save" mode during the boot up and not come back on. Dell's tech support was very nice, but their solution is: use the VGA inputs instead. Both of my monitors will be returned to Dell tomorrow.
I find this hard to believe, as there seem to be plenty of happy owners running two of these monitors.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

All depends on the setup. It would seem the person who you've quoted has had problems sorting it out (besides that sounds like a graphics card issue rather than monitor).

I am currently running a Dell 2407WFP + a Dell 2007FP on a 7600GT absolutely fine in Windows XP and Ubuntu.

Totally off-topic but Shiver do you have a picture of your setup? Thinking of getting exactly the same for my next build :)

voodooflux - sounds much more like it was a problem with the graphics card then the monitors

That to me sounds like it could only be a graphics card problem. Monitors do what they're told depending on what the graphics card tells them. They're not gonna look across the desk, see some primary monitor being higher up from them in the pecking order and decide not to function. I'd bet significant amounts of money that guy would have the same problem regardless of the monitors he attaches.

I'd also be interested in a pic if possible Shiver, as I'm tempted by this configuration as well.

I'm moving house in about 2 weeks, so I'll post pictures when I'm set up there. :)

I was considering dual 2407WFPs but I prefer having the one widescreen directly infront for gaming/movies/etc and then the 2007FP to the side for IRC / MSN / other everyday apps.

They look ace together as the vertical pixels and height dimensions match and both have the excellent Dell monitor stands.

Thanks Shiver, that addresses my primary concern about running these side-by-side, namely whether they match in vertical size.

Does the vertical height match *exactly* or is it just pretty close? Reason I ask is that the spec sheet for the 2007FP has the Vertical Preset Display Area as 306mm while the 2407WFP is reported as 324mm.
