Hi All,

Against every fibre of my being I bought 2 Radeon 5870s and have them running in XFire for Eyefinity. It was all working fine for about 2 weeks until I turned on my PC tonight to see that none of the screens displayed anything. I checked to see if the PC was booting and it boots right into windows (I can telnet to various programs I use), however there is nothing displayed on the monitors.

Removing one of the pair works and the displays connected to that card will display as normal, however together they will not display anything. Both cards work alone.

Ive tried reseating the cards, different combinations of ports on the cards, removing the XFire ribbon but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers lads.

Have you tried them alone on both the pci-e slots ? and not just the top slot?

Do you even see the BIOS (UEFI) startup when both are in ? if you do see it maybe you need to try reinstall the drivers. I would stick only one card in and remove all the drivers and then reinstall the drivers with only one card in. Restart the system with one card let it boot into windows, shut down and insert the 2nd card and see how it goes from there.

*But do make sure both the pci-e slots are working with 1 card 1st. Could be the motherboard that has one dead pci-e slot.* Another thing you can try is reset the BIOS/UEFI to defaults again and setup the BIOS/UEFI to boot 1st from PCI-E graphics, this is just to rule out a BIOS/UEFI error, also maybe check if there is an update for your BIOS/UEFI and flash the motherboard and same for your graphics cards check for new firmware and flash them 1 at a time in the system (so only have one card in when flashing it, just to be safe).

Hope this gives you some ideas where to look mate, you have done the right thing to check each card on it's own, but do make sure to do that with both PCI-E slots, just to rule out a bad PCI-E slot too. Aslo make sure the PSU power cables to the graphics cards are tested on one card too, could be one of the power cables has died too.

Also mate add more info about your system PSU, CPU, MOTHERBOARD etc etc , that way someone may spot a known fault with the components you have.

Ill give that a go, I never tried each card in their own slot and they seemed to work but didn't try swapping them round. ill also give the 8X slot a go too, see if that works.

For reference:

Mobo: Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
PSU: Corsair AX1200
CPU: Intel Core i7 970 3.20GHz (Gulftown) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail (Standard Clock)

Catalyst Version: 11.9
Driver Version: 8.892

Although personally I don't think it is an issue with power - I don't get the annoying high pitched squeal you get when you under power the cards, ill give it a go though!

Cheers bud :)

UPDATE: Deinstalled and reinstalled the drivers, however now I cannot run my old configuration of monitors (2xDVI, 1xD-Port->DVI [via active adapter]). It appears I can only plug one DVI monitor in at a time per card, and as I cannot stretch Eyefinity across both cards, I cannot use the cards for what I was originally using them for before this all happened :'(

It's starting to sound like a driver problem, have you tried different versions of the drivers and have made sure you have installed the monitor drivers too for each screen ?

I would check the AMD Game forums and ask if anyone has a cure for this problem with Eyefinity, I never used Eyefinity when I had a 5870 so not really sure how to help you there. The good news is it sounds like your hardware is fine. Have you made sure the active adapter (display port to DVI) is working correctly on it's own ?
