Hello. I currently own 1 9800GT. Ive just ordered a full HD monitor and im aware the 9800gt will struggle on some games with high settings.

Im also aware 9800GT's can be picked up for £50 now so im wondering if it would be worth getting another one and running dual? On the other hand would it be better to put my 9800GT up for sale and buy a whole new card? Either way I only want to spend £50 as ive just paid out for a new monitor.

~Thanks

I'd wait until you can afford a better upgrade if I were you.

Im pretty sure it can have two cards on the board. Ile tripple check when I get home. I just thought it would be cheaper to get another 9800GT by the time ive sold my 9800GT which ide imagine I would be lucky to get £40. Then ide have to put another £70 as well to get a good card.

I'd wait and get a 560ti if I were you, the 9800GT is ancient.

2x9800GTs would still struggle but you'd be able to get one for about £35 I'd say.

Well its going to mainly for gaming. The 9800GT I have runs pretty well. I play new games like MW3 and BF3 on xbox. Another 9800GT sounds tempting for £35. Its just ide splashed out on a new monitor which is full HD and therefore don't have much if I am to upgrade the graphics card too. Obviously im not going to get much for my 9800GT so ide have to put more towards a completly new card so I may just get another 9800GT and possibly overclock slightly?

Depends on what you play I suppose. I remember when I had my PC my 9800GT played MW2 maxed out at 1080p. Keep your eyes peeled for a cheap 9800GT though, they can be had for a decent price. What is yours, a 512MB or 1GB one? Also with aftermarket cooling they do clock very well.

I think you'd stuggle to get even that considering you can buy a refurbed card for £41 from OcUK - Link

Whilst the 9800GT is fairly ancient in graphic card terms it still perfoms ok at lower resolutions. I've got an older albeit identical 8800GT in my HTPC and it runs pretty much everything I chuck at it at my tellys native 1360x768 res without having to turn too many settings down. In fact my Dad has a 9800GT in his computer and was very surprised when I ran the F1 2011 benchmark over Christmas that it came in with an average framerate of 38fps and minimums no lower than 30fps. This was at 1680x1050 with all settings set to high! Granted it's going to struggle with the latest and greatest games at 1080P but I've just noticed the OP is only running a 19" screen.

Having said all this I still wouldn't recommend buying another one to run in SLi :p To the OP - save up and get something which will last you longer. At the end of the day if you come across a game that doesn't support SLi very well or even not at all you're back down to a single 9800GT. Buy a new more up to date DX11 card and then upgrade that 19" monitor ;)

Seriously, save your money and buy something that you'll really appreciate and will last you a good while, then later upgrade that monitor!

;)

Ignore my post above, It seems I failed to pick up on the fact the OP has already ordered a 1080P monitor :o

To the OP, you'll definitely be needing a faster card than your current 9800GT, even if you buy another one you'll be struggling with the lack of VRAM at that res.

1. I have gone blind as well! :D

2. What he said.

;)

Yeah the monitor is already on its way. Ile just wait till a refurbished one is available at a good price then / checking ebay. My current card is 512mb.

Are you still looking for another card to SLI?

Maybe I missed it but have you confirmed your motherboard is SLI compatible?

FYI, only 4 lines of text allowed in your sig.

Im not at home at the moment but I will confirm within 3 hours. Will edit signature. I wouldnt mind another card. I don't usually play modern games on my PC. The biggest game I play is GTA IV.

Don't get another 9800gt, I've been down that road. Wish I didn't bother at all sli'ing the 9800gt.

Save yourself the hassle of selling 2 9800gt's in the future and save for a more powerful single card.

I went from 2 x 9800gt to a single gtx 470 and saw a massive difference.

Hope this helps.
