Dual boot and cloning

I want to have Win7 and Win10 as a dual boot. My original idea was to clone my Win7 to a new partition, boot into it and install Win10 over the top.

I've cloned it, and edited my boot menu so Win7 is on C and Win7 copy is on D. However, when I boot into D, it still seems to be booting into C (I can see the old items on the desktop which I deleted on D). Also, can't seem to go into Windows Explorer - comes out with a 'Server Execution Failed' error.

So is this not possible?

I would simply reinstall Windows on the second drive, but when I got the laptop, Win7 was already installed, and I've checked the CD key, and it just says BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB and 'Installed from 'Volume' media.
