I want to remove XP and merge the free space with C:/ because Vista is hungry for space. First using VistaBootPro I deleted the XP entry from the boot menu. The I tried:
to format or delete the X:/ from Vista - it does not allow me
to format with Hiren Boot CD - can't install temporary files for some reason
using Windows XP installation CD it can't find any hard drive

Please help. Thank you

I managed to format the X:/ partition when I booted with the Vista installation DVD. The I applied:
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec/exe /fixboot

Then when I tried to load Vista it gave an error: bootmgr missing press ctrl-alt-del to restart.
I managed to fix that again with the help of the Vista DVD using startup repair.

So now X:/ is emplty, but it is still a System and active partition with the Vista boot loader on it:

Any ideas?
