dual boot using 2 hard drives.

Which two o/s? If windows your best shot is likely be to plug in one drive, install o/s. Unplug, plug in other, install other o/s. plug first back in, hit F8 (or similar) on boot to choose which hard drive you want to use.

I think the best operating system is Gentoo, but many people are likely to disagree

Hi guys i want to install both o/s which is best first and how do i out them on 2 different hard drives? thanks.

I dual boot with XP and Vista. Had XP installed already, then installed Vista onto another drive. Simple, no unplugging of anything.

When it boots up it then gives you the option of selecting the older version of windows (XP) or the new one (VITSA).

If you have Vista installed first and later want to install XP can be a bit of a pain but easily done.

Install Vista, do what you need to and reboot with XP disc in. Install XP and now you will only be able to boot to XP. Insert Vista disc and reboot, choose "Repair PC" and then "Startup repair" Once that is done you can reboot and now Vista will only boot. Download Easy BCD, choose "Add entry" and choose the drive with XP on. Save and restart and now got option for either.

Mostly dual booting on 2 drives works well, but be aware if you remove the drive with the boot option files you may have problems with the remaining drive booting without them. Depends which drive has the files and which is removed.

Its also best to have a consistent drive naming scheme rather than letting the OS's go to defaults ie c and d not 2 c drives.

thanks for the responses guys, so do i just plug my new drive in then and boot pc then go into bios and boot from vista disc and select new hard drive to install vista? install it then reboot. From there how do i select which hard drive to boot from without going in bios everytime? Cheers guys
