Dual boot - Vista corrupted files

I am running a dual boot with xp and vista but I have corrupted one of the files on the vista side.

Can I just run the repair with the OS disk or will that mess up my xp?

just run the repair from the cd it should all be fine.

When does the repair come up? Is it quite a bit into the install stage? As I dont want to overwrite my stuff by accident.

just after you select the end user licence, then the repair option should show. sounds like its installing again. is the disk oem or retail? either way unless you have slipstreamed the disk you should still get the repair option.
